Linear Algebra
Undergraduate Course - Teaching Assistant, Shandong University, School of Mechanical, Electrical and Information Engineering, 2020
Teaching Assistant for a 400+ student Linear Algebra course at Shandong University (Fall 2020 – Spring 2021), under the School of Mechanical, Electrical and Information Engineering. Recognized as Outstanding Teaching Assistant at the end of the academic year.
Responsibilities
Graded 600+ handwritten problem sets each week, with written feedback focused on identifying conceptual gaps rather than just marking errors — particularly around eigendecomposition, linear transformations, and systems of equations.
Maintained course attendance records and coordinated assignment tracking across multiple class sections. Held weekly online office hours and responded to questions on the course forum, fielding 30+ student questions per week on topics ranging from row reduction to inner product spaces.
Notes
The course covered standard undergraduate linear algebra: vector spaces, matrix factorizations (LU, QR, eigendecomposition), orthogonality, determinants, and selected applications in engineering contexts. The scale of the course — over 400 students across sections — meant that efficient, consistent grading and communication were as important as subject knowledge.
